Opportunities (updated
on 9/15/05)
There are presently no specific
opportunities for graduate students in Dr. Taillefert's group. However,
we are always looking for graduate students interested in
geomicrobiology, environmental chemistry, and chemical oceanography. If
you are looking for such position, please contact Dr. Martial Taillefert at mtaillef@eas.gatech.edu,
and send him a resume and a brief statement of research interests. For more information concerning the Geochemistry
Program in EAS and the
graduate courses available, visit: http://geochemistry.eas.gatech.edu/.
Postdoctoral
Position in Geomicrobiology
A postdoctoral position is
available in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) to
investigate the microbial processes regulating the distribution of
metals in aquatic systems. Research projects associated with this
position include the investigation of the reduction and precipitation
of metals (iron, uranium) by model organisms using a combination of
state-of-the-art analytical and molecular techniques. These projects
are collaborative projects between research groups in EAS, Chemistry,
and Biology such that expertise that covers all aspects of
geomicrobiology are available. EAS is located in the new Environmental
Science and Technology complex and includes a clean laboratory for
trace element analysis by ICP-MS and state-of-the art instrumentation
for the quantitation of biomolecules and natural substrates. On campus
analytical centers also available for this research include mass
spectrometry, high-resolution microscopy, and NMR facilities.
A Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or
geochemical equivalent is required. Preference will be given to
candidates with experience in trace metal analysis or with some of the
techniques mentioned above. Inquiries should be made by sending a
curriculum vitae, a short statement of research interests, and the name
and address of three references to Dr.
Martial Taillefert at mtaillef@eas.gatech.edu.
